Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles H. Rivkin will travel to Los Angeles, California, November 4 – 6. While there, Assistant Secretary Rivkin will speak to the Asia Society Southern California’s U.S. – China Film Summit about the burgeoning U.S. – China film industries. Drawing on his background as a former CEO in the media sector, the Assistant Secretary will highlight the power of films to connect with audiences through the creation of authentic and compelling content. He will also discuss the elements required to build a thriving global movie industry, including the importance of a level playing field to attract and support investment and robust intellectual property rights to incentivize and protect creative content.
This event leads up to Assistant Secretary Rivkin’s second trip to China. He will travel to Beijing November 7 – 11 as part of the U.S. delegation to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings. APEC is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade, and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. While there, the Assistant Secretary will meet with CEOs and business representatives from China, the United States, and other APEC economies. The discussions will focus on ways to drive more investment and innovation.
