Under Secretary Novelli Travels to Turkey and Germany

Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Catherine Novelli will travel to Istanbul, Ankara, and Berlin, September 1-5. In Istanbul, she will be the senior U.S. Government official participating in the 2014 Internet Governance Forum (IGF), and will deliver remarks at a High Level Event hosted by the Turkish Government on September 1 and the IGF’s Opening Session on September 2.
The IGF was established as an outcome of the 2005 World Summit on the Information Society to bring together a broad community of Internet stakeholders, including governments, the private sector, and civil society. At the IGF, the Under Secretary will be joined by NTIA Administrator and Assistant Secretary of Commerce Lawrence E. Strickling; FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn; Ambassador Pamela K. Hamamoto, Permanent Representative of the United States of the America to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva; Ambassador Daniel A. Sepulveda, U.S. Coordinator for Communications and Information Policy; State Department Coordinator for Cyber Issues Christopher Painter; and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Scott Busby of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.
In Istanbul, Under Secretary Novelli will also meet with senior government officials, business leaders, and civil society. In addition, she will host a roundtable with a group of global technology entrepreneurs to discuss Internet related policy issues.
On September 3, Under Secretary Novelli will travel to Ankara where she will meet with senior government officials to discuss economic cooperation between the United States and Turkey and regional economic issues of mutual interest. While there, Under Secretary Novelli will also meet with a group of Turkish business leaders hosted by the TOBB, the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges.
In Berlin, Under Secretary Novelli will meet with German government officials, business leaders, academics, and civil society leaders, September 4-5, to discuss a broad range of issues, including trade, the environment, information technology and telecommunications, and cooperation in other economic sectors.
