Secretary of State John Kerry will host a welcome reception to commemorate the announcement of Randy Berry as the first-ever Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBT Persons at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27, in the Benjamin Franklin Room at the Department of State.


Secretary Kerry, Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Tom Malinowski, and Special Envoy-designate Berry will deliver remarks.


At this event, Secretary Kerry will recognize the contributions of LGBT advocates and allies. Invited guests include members of Congress, the diplomatic corps, the Global Equality Fund, corporations and representatives of civil society from a variety of fields.


The event will be open to the press and streamed live on http://www.state.gov. Follow the event using #LGBT, and during the Secretary’s remarks at @StateDeptLive.


Pre-set time for video cameras: 12:30 p.m. from the 23rd Street Entrance.


Final access time for journalists and still photographers: 1:00 p.m. from the 23rd Street Entrance.


Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver’s license, passport).
